January 09


Mid Winter

What i should be doing now in January.

Chit potatoes 1st earlies, plant garlic bulbs, start digging for parsnips and beans and peas and cover the soil with plastic to warm. Find containers, old tyres or bags for sowing carrots and potatoes. Start collecting loo rolls eans, leeks, ttles to protect peas, beans, leeks, parsnips.

Sow-

Carrots, leeks, Broad beans, peas, red summer cabbage,celeriac, celery, lettiue,cucumbers, chilli, peppers, tomatoes and beetroot.

04/01/09

Chitting 7 tates in greenhouse, planted 6 garlic heads in greenhouse and planted 7 in soil already shooting.

16/01/09

Planted 3 elephant garlic, 1 white tray leeks, 64 beetroot, 40 red cabbage, 20 lettuce, 1/2 seed tray of celeriac and 1/2 seed tray of celery all in greenhouse. Chitted 26 broad beans.

10/01/09

Potted 23 of 26 broad beans, 6 garlic heads and put 15 little tates in greenhouse to chit.

20/01/09

Turned an old tyre inside out filled 1/2 with soil and 1/2 John Innies seed compost topped with vermiculite, sown early nantie carrots and bubblewrapped for warmth, very frostie. Brrr snow and frosts next week.

24/01/09

Kitchen windowsil - sown 12 pepper, 6 cucumber, 6 chilli, 10 basket toms in pots in a tray with lid on.
Sown 1/2 seed tray carrots, 1/2 seed tray of spring onions. both with lid in front room, nice and warm.. Snow all week.
